Rafael E. Saavedra Morell
Attorney and Notary Public
Attorney Rafael E. Saavedra Morell is a licensed attorney and notary public, admitted to practice law in Puerto Rico since 2011, as well as before the U.S. District Court for the District of Puerto Rico.
His career in the field of Intellectual Property began in 2013, when he served as an Examining Officer at the Puerto Rico Trademark Registry. For over five years, in addition to fulfilling his duties in that role, he was also responsible for training other Examining Officers.
In 2019, he joined the trademark division of McConnell Valdés LLC, where he worked as a Trademark Specialist until 2021. In that role, he worked directly with local clients and international law firms.
After more than a decade of experience in the legal field—primarily in Intellectual Property—he decided in 2021 to start his own firm, Saavedra Morell Law LLC, a boutique law firm that offers personalized services to clients across the island and around the world. The firm focuses on Trademark Registration in Puerto Rico and the United States, Copyright Law, Contracts, Corporate Law, Trademark Litigation, and Notarial Services. Its mission is to provide cost-effective, agile, and highly specialized trademark services, serving as a strategic link between local clients and global firms.
Currently, he advises and collaborates with clients in Puerto Rico, the United States, Latin America, and Europe, helping businesses connect with effective legal protection and build international relationships with specialized law firms.
Attorney Saavedra Morell earned his B.A. in Sociology from the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez Campus, in 2007, and his Juris Doctor from the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico in 2010. He is currently pursuing a combined LLM in Intellectual Property and Commercial Law at the University of Puerto Rico School of Law.

Saavedra Morell Law represents both local and foreign clients in intellectual property matters such as trademark and copyright prosecution, be it individuals to multinational law firms requiring outsourcing services to assist them with their clients’ trademarks and copyrights needs in both Puerto Rico and the United States.
- Trademark prosecution: We assist our clients each step of the way to make sure that they can make the best decisions at every phase of the trademark process. This means helping them develop either a trademark, service mark, or tradename, performing trademark knockout searches, thinking ahead to identify and avoid potential infringements, and obtaining clearance and proper licensing of a mark if necessary. Our experience allows us to evaluate which jurisdiction would better suit seeking protection properly. Also, we provide other trademark transaction and counseling services such as:
- Preparing trademark opinions and filing, prosecuting, and maintaining trademark applications and registrations in the Puerto Rico Trademark Office (PRTO) and the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
- Copyright Transactions and Counseling: We assist our clients to protect and enforce their copyright needs related to literary works, musical works, dramatic works, pantomimes and choreographic works, pictorial, graphic, and sculptural works, motion pictures and other audiovisual works, sound recordings, or compilations. We take the time to carefully review and appraise the value of the material provided by our clients. And, if determined necessary, proceed with the filing and prosecution of copyright registration in both the US Copyright Office and the Puerto Rico Intellectual Property Office under the Puerto Rico Intellectual Property Act.
